Kedarkantha Trek

The name Kedarkantha means, approximately, "The Throat of Lord Shiva." It is a mountain that is located 20 kilometres from the settlement of Sankri and is 12,500 feet tall. The Pandavas reportedly visited Lord Shiva to seek his blessings following the battle of Kurukshetra. In order to avoid meeting them, Lord Shiva pretended to be a buffalo. When Bheem detected something odd in the buffalo herd, he wouldn't let the masked buffalo pass. The two then started fighting as a result. The Pandavas allegedly built shrines wherever pieces of Bheem's body fell after he allegedly tore the buffalo apart.

It appears that his throat hit Kedarkantha. A lovely and exciting way to spend a week away from the bustle of city life, the 20-kilometer Kedarkantha Trek is completed over the course of four nights and five days.

In the midst of the snowy scenery, camping on the way to Kedarkantha Peak is a surreal and exciting experience in and of itself. However, there are other more activities available, like astronomy, landscape photography, and the area's newest amenity, skiing at Kedarkantha.
